Symantec antivirus server not updating
About a month ago, the Virus Definition File version date stopped updating and hasn't updated since - 3/26/2012 rev. The automatic update has continued to run everyday, downloading the latest definitions, but not updating the version date in the client. Sometimes it downloads an update successfully and other times it says the virus definitions are up to date.If I run it again after a successful download, it will always say it's up to date.Live Update can retrieve definitions files either from the Symantec server (which it does by default) or from an internal Web, FTP, or file server created with the Live Update Administration Utility. To run Live Update from the Symantec System Center Console Scheduling Live Update You can schedule Live Update to run periodically, either from the Virus Definition Manager within the Symantec System Center, or by clicking File and then Schedule Updates from within Symantec Anti Virus.I tried to manually launch Live Update on SEPM various times, but no use, Every time update all other definitions excluding Antivirus updates. After few minutes , it will automatically push the definition to SEPM console and it will be distributed to clients in few minutes, All of my clients (100 ) took about 20 minutes to update. When it comes to VDTM, it is important to update at least one server so that all the computers in the network are updated.Ive tried uninstalling at the server and reinstalling, (pushing)the client from the parent server but nothing helps.Ive checked symantecs knowledgebase but i cant find any thing usefull. Any ideas please Gary I had a problem where a def update failed to replicate and caused the server to basically become unresponsive. I removed SAV and all def files from common files, cleared temp etc and reinstalled. With the VDTM, it is only necessary to update one server in order to update all computers in the network. The server gets definitions updates using Live Update or an file, and then automatically distributes the definitions to each of its clients on the network.
